A Survivor’s Silent Prayer

I call on the seasoned souls
Of all who have walked before me.

Who lost pieces of their body to surgery
Who faced the reality we all eventually face:
limited time and possible endings.

I welcome their wisdom
of how to embrace life
and milk each day to find precious moments
of well-being to buffer other times
of confusion and discord.

I thank you for paving this well-worn way
that leds to discoveries
that made some cancer journeys a bit easier.

And above all, I send you gratitude.
And like you, may all of us contribute
to futures that lead to
an ending of cancer as a disrupter of life.
